Internal Code: MAS5493 Health Care Assignment: Inclusion is defined as the practice of including the child with special needs in the mainstream education having genuine and equitable opportunities to participate in and learn from daily routines, play, interactions and learning experiences that take place in early childhood setting (FSU Centre for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy 2002 cited in Parlakian, 2012). Inclusion helps in providing concrete developmentally appropriate strategies with a range of skills and needs that can be used to support the ongoing development of children. The role of supporting the inclusion of all children in early childhood settings is of importance, considering the advantages of inclusion. The fundamental goal of inclusion of all children is to promote social competence for young children with disabilities. Mahoney, Robinson, and Powell (1992) states that if early childhood educators are more responsive and child-centred in their practices, then the children with disabilities make better gain in their communication skills and are more likely to initiate play with their peers (as cited in Vakil, Welton, O’Connor and Kline, 2009). ECA Code of Ethics discussed in relation with children, the educator, and early childhood setting will create and maintain safe, healthy, inclusive environments that support children’s agency and enhance their learning (Early Childhood Australia, 2017). Inclusion involves normalization and deinstitutionalization by breaking the barriers to provide free appropriate education for children with special needs (Early Childhood Australia, n.d.). Cologon (2013) emphasized that inclusion has the potential to build friendship through interpersonal skills, greater acceptability of children with disabilities in the classroom, respect and understand diversity regardless of disabilities.
